Liturgical Calendar

The saving work of Christ is celebrated throughout the Church in its general calendar of liturgical days. The Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph observes supplementary days as indicated in the Liturgical Calendar (PDF link below).

Liturgical Calendar-Related Guidance

  • Parish Church Titular Solemnities: Masses celebrated in parish churches on their titular day include three scripture readings pertaining to the patron, as well as the Gloria and the Creed. The Liturgy of the Hours for the title is observed with the proper texts, Evening Prayer I, and the Hymn Te Deum at the Office of Readings, which may be expanded into Vigils. In Ordinary Time parishes may transfer the solemnity to a nearby Sunday.
  • Parish Church Dedication Anniversary Solemnities: Masses celebrated in parish churches on their dedication anniversary are solemnities that include three scripture readings from the Common of the Dedication of a Church, as well as the Gloria and the Creed, with the missal’s presidential prayers for the anniversary of the dedication of a church. The Liturgy of the Hours for the title is observed with the proper texts, Evening Prayer I, and the Hymn Te Deum at the Office of Readings, which may be expanded into Vigils. In Ordinary Time parishes may transfer the solemnity to a nearby Sunday.
