Announcement regarding Office of the Diaconate and Office of Divine Worship

The Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph announces changes in leadership within Office of the Diaconate and Office of Divine Worship

Deacon Doug Warrens has accepted two part time Chancery positions – Director of the Office of the Diaconate and Associate Director of the Office of Divine Worship – beginning Oct. 1. He will also continue to serve St. Therese Little Flower Parish (North) as part time Pastoral Associate and Director of the RCIA program.

“I am grateful to Deacon Warrens for his willingness to continue the mission and ministry of the diocese in two important ways while also carrying on his valuable parish assignments,” said Bishop Johnston.

On September 30, Deacon Paul Muller will end his six years of faithful service as director of the Office of the Diaconate. Since February 2016, Deacon Muller has overseen the formation and ongoing support of the permanent diaconate community, including the ordinations of two large classes of deacons in 2018 and 2022.  He will continue his assignments at St. Margaret of Scotland Parish in Lee’s Summit and Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in Harrisonville.

At the end of this year, Deacon Michael Lewis will also end his service as Assistant Director of the Diaconate Office after six years. He will continue to serve in his role as Pastoral Associate at St. Patrick Parish in Clay County.

Bishop Johnston added, “Please join me in giving thanks and supporting these three men, as well as those continuing in service to the Office of the Diaconate – Deacons Ken Albers, James Olshefski and John Wichmann. We offer them our prayers during this time of transition.”
