New Location for Camp Savio

Camp Savio announces move to Conception Abbey for Summer 2023

March 20, 2023

The Diocesan Office of Youth Ministry is thrilled to announce that Camp Savio will be held at a new location this year. “The monks of Conception Abbey are pleased to welcome Camp Savio and the youth of our diocese to our home this summer,” said Abbot Benedict Neenan, OSB. “We pray that this partnership will serve our young people as they seek Christ in fellowship and prayer, that the diocese will benefit from their spiritual growth, and that the Abbey will be energized by their presence.”

“We are grateful to be hosting camp within the Diocese of Kansas City – St. Joseph this year,” said Brad Horn, director of the Office of Youth Ministry. “We are looking forward to seeing the Holy Spirit move through the lives of all our campers this summer in this new location  .”

Conception Abbey’s facilities provide the physical space needed to maintain Camp Savio activities like bubble soccer, archery tag, low ropes course, and more, while also providing access to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception for Mass and adoration.

“Conception Abbey’s location makes it an ideal place for the youth of our diocese to truly ‘retreat’ from the busy distractions of everyday life and encounter our Lord, Jesus Christ,” said Bishop James Johnston. “We are looking forward to our youth enjoying the fun of camp and growing in their faith while witnessing monastic life in the monks and this beautiful place of prayer and God’s presence.”
