“First Saturdays” is a grass roots initiative to help reconnect area Catholic doctors with Christ and His Church. This collaboration of the School of Faith, the male branch of the Apostles of the Interior Life and the local guild of the Catholic Medical Association helps doctors by providing a combination of Mass, reconciliation, and a 30-45 minute catechesis and discussion led by our School of Faith Founder and theologian, Michael Scherschligt.
The program will cover a broad range of medical and spiritual topics related to contemporary issues facing Catholic doctors today. One of the great opportunities in contemporary healthcare is for Catholic physicians to bring their faith to bear on the challenges facing their patients, and particularly in the provision of healthcare that conforms to the Gospel vision of human dignity. In light of ethical controversies in medicine, the need for living icons of the Divine Physician is more urgent than ever.
The program’s goal of igniting the fire of the Holy Spirit in area Catholic docs and to integrate Christ and His Church fully into their practice will transform our families, our parishes, our practices and our hospitals, and ultimately the next 100 years of healthcare in our country, starting here in the heartland: Kansas City.
